USCIS Increases Automatic Extension Period of Work Permits to 540 days

Posted by Marcin Muszynski | May 03, 2022 | 0 Comments

USCIS has just announced the automatic extension of work permits (EAD) to be increased from 180 days to 540 days.

Currently, certain EAD categories are automatically extended by 180 days if an extension application is timely filed. The new rule will increase the 180 days to 540 days.

The rule becomes effective tomorrow, i.e. 5/4/2022, and immigrants whose 180-day period has expired will be granted additional 360 days of authorized employment provided their extension applications are still pending.

The new rule applies only to EAD's that are subject to the automatic 180-day extension.
